Sunday night was one to remember on the island of Maui..or forget, depending how many Mai Tais you consumed. Not only was it my brother Dusty's 21st birthday, but a few of us also got together to throw a little WCT qualification celebration. Somehow over 250 people packed in at Lulu's restaurant in Lahaina to celebrate Dusty's historic accomplishment. He's the first Maui surfer to ever qualify for the Dream Tour, and on hand to join in the festivities was a veritable who's who of Maui's surfing community, including Ian Walsh, Kai Barger, Hank Gaskell, Tai Van Dyke, and Granger Larsen. From groms to grandparents, everyone was on hand to wish Dusty good luck in his upcoming WCT campayne!
The night was filled with good friends, good food, and good vibes as the joint swelled with a sea of blue "Dusty done it!" read t-shirts and hats. To add something extra to the festivities, Dusty and his friends decided to invite attendees to donate food to the Maui Food Bank. By the end of the night over 450 lbs. of canned goods had been collected for people in need. All in all, it was an awesome night, and a great way to cap off a mammoth year for Dusty. All signs point to this giant ball of momentum to continue straight into 2010. Big ups to Nike 6.0 and Volcom for helping to make it an awesome night! Congrats Dusty!
