If you're a Southern California surfer that has indulged in cross-border surf strikes over the years, even if it's just quick hits to places like Baja Malibu and Rosarito, maybe it's time you gave back a little. This weekend WiLDCOAST is leading the first ever bi-national beach cleanup of San Diego's Tijuana River Valley. With WiLDCOAST leading the charger and garnering support from Tijuana Calidad de Vida and the Surfrider Foundation, volunteers are invited to clean up both sides of the boarder. No question it's going to be a dirty affair, the aim is to fish out as much plastic, tires and other miscellaneous refuse before the winter rains start flushing them out in our ocean. Mexico's gotten a pretty bad rap lately, and while this certainly won't solve immigration or cartel issues, it is a chance to hopefully turn things around a little. If you want to lend a hand, show up at the West Dairy Mart bridge on Saturday October 24. The clean up will run from approximately 9:00am to 12:00pm...plus, with swell in the water it might be a good excuse to catch a few waves too.
