"Snowboarding comes from the kids making it possible it's all about you," Rice said from the podium after winning his second award of the night. "Thanks to Red Bull and Quiksilver for believing what we say and helping us to make it happen." On receiving his final honor of the night, Men's Rider of the Year, an award voted on by his peers in snowboarding, Rice graciously honored them back by listing off the many contributions other riders have made to snowboarding this year.
Rice's prominence has snowballed with the massive success of his most recent film, "That's It, That's All", the debut of and win at the Quiksilver Natural Selection and last week's X Games gold. Hundreds of pro riders, who were the judges, came together to select Rice as the Men's Rider of the Year and give two nods to his video part. Readers affirmed the selection voting online for Rice as their choice for Rider of the Year. He last won Reader's Choice for Men's Rider of the Year in 2005, after the release of "The Community Project".
"From the first glimpse that we had of "That's It, That's All", we knew there was something special," says Annie Fast, Editor of Transworld SNOWboarding Magazine. "It's no surprise that Travis won all four. That's it, that's all…what more can you say?"
The 10th Annual Transworld Snowboarding Rider Poll award show was held on Wednesday, January 28th at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino's club, The Joint. On the second night of the SIA trade show, this invite-only event brought the snowboard industry together to celebrate the best moments and riders of the year. Last week viewers overwhelmingly awarded gold to the Jackson local in X Games big air and "That's It, That's All." received three accolades at the X-Dance Action Sports Film Festival.
Rice continues life on the road heading from Vegas to the North Face Masters in Utah and then to the Big Apple for the first ever Red Bull Snowscrapers event. Watch Rice go huge as it happens live in New York or on RedBullSnowscrapers.com, February 5th and again when NBC airs the contest on February 15th. Later this winter, it's back to Jackson to freeride with friends and begin work on his next film project with partner, Curt Morgan.
