Huston wins Street League in L.A.

Street League Skateboarding stops in Los Angeles before the final championships in New Jersey

Nyjah Huston will be rolling into the Street League Skateboarding Super Crown World Championship next month in New Jersey as the undisputed leader of the 2014 SLS World Tour, following his win Sunday in Los Angeles and his previous wins at the SLS Chicago stop and the SLS Pro Open last month.

Even an injury from a serious crash in practice Saturday couldn't hold back Huston, who also won Skateboard Street gold at X Games Austin in June and won the 2014 ESPY for best male action sports athlete earlier this month. Huston injured his leg and wrist in Saturday's fall and said he could barely walk when he got out of bed Sunday morning.

"I seriously have no idea," he said after emerging as the victor in Sunday's final. "Today was definitely a stressful one."

Nyjah Huston claimed his third Street League victory of the season this weekend in Los Angeles.

He managed to pull it together in time for semifinals, where he finished third to advance to the eight-man final. In perhaps the biggest surprise of the day, Chris Cole -- the 2013 SLS Super Crown World Champion -- failed to advance to finals and will miss the cut for this year's Super Crown.

Huston trailed behind Shane O'Neill, Torey Pudwill and Ryan Decenzo in the Flow section of the contest, then caught up in the Impact section with a score of 8.6 for his 360 flip over the gap to 50-50 down the Hubba ledge.

He came out swinging in the Control section, where riders are scored on their best four out of six attempts, landing a backside kickflip and a kickflip to backside tailslide to fakie before breaking one of his trucks on his third attempt. No matter: He borrowed a board from O'Neill and posted the biggest score of the day -- a 9.2 -- for a bigspin kickflip on his fourth attempt, then got his own board fixed in time to land a kickflip over the gap to nosegrind down the Hubba, ultimately edging ahead of Chaz Ortiz and Pudwill for the top spot.

The 2014 SLS Super Crown World Championship will be held Aug. 24 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
